DG
Flugzeugbau named "Best Brand of the Year 2007";
"aerokurier"
celebrated
its 50th year in 2007. For
the anniversary issue, which was published at the end of July 2007, the
magazine started a survey amongst its readers in order to find
out how they judge the various aircraft manufacturers – the
“brands” of our industry. Responses
were to be sent to aerokurier, or handed in at the publisher’s stand
at the trade fair AERO 2007. Over
1,000 readers took part in the survey.

Technical
Data of the DG-1000
In the
beginning, there were only three 20 meter class two
seaters on the market; all with very different
characteristics:
The
ASK 21 was considered to be the ideal glider for
flight training: robust,
docile, and suitable for aerobatics.
The
Duo-Discus was the most modern two seater and was
designed especially for
cross-country flying.
The
DG-505 ORION was multitalented and combined good
training capabilities, and
very good performance in both cross-country and
aerobatic flying.
In the Spring of 1997 the DG team
got together to discuss the long term plans for DG
Flugzeugbau. During these discussions it became clear
that they could design and construct a glider that
combines all the positive characteristics of the three
models mentioned above.
The result was a plan for a two
seater glider, the DG-1000.

LS8-s/LS8-st
High performance glider - model enhancements
by DG Flugzeugbau
The LS8 no longer needs any introduction - after all, over the past few
years it has been the most frequently sold standard class glider. The recent
takeover of LS Flugzeugbau sparked the ambition amongst our engineers to
enhance this outstanding product even further.
The LS8-s was born!
The following enhancements have been implemented with the start of
production at DG Flugzeugbau:
1. reinforced wing structure for a higher max. take-off weight of 575kg in
the 18m version
2. comfortably sprung and retractable undercarriage, enlarged to 5 inches
for easier ground handling
3. Piggott
hook to avoid unintentional opening of the airbrakes
4. side trim with integrated pocket
5. battery boxes under the seat - leaves more room
for luggage
6. canopy cover and water ballast funnel as standard
7. options for
The LS8-st has all the enhancements of the
LS8-s plus the 23 HP Solo 2350 sustainer engine to help you get home on those
days that the lift just stops working. LS8-st

LS-10
At
Rolladen-Schneider, the LS10 was conceived as a combination glider for
the 15 and 18 meter classes, with wing parting at the 17m location. This was done so that the wing
plan-form could
be optimized for both configurations, maintain a low overall weight and
the soft LS feel in flight.
The designer, Werner Scholz of the Steinbeiss Institute in Stuttgart,
planned a glider with the same easy handling characteristics typical or
the LS series. In contrast to the LS6, better slow speed and high speed
performance was designed into the LS10. The optimization of the
performance was not to be at the expense of the low sensitivity of the
LS6 to turbulence, rain and bugs. This goal would seem to have been
reached as demonstrated by the initial contest experience and results.
Holger Back said, "At Bayreuth I had no disadvantage during rain
showers."
